LISBON COMPOSTING

The Lisbon City Council has launched the Lisbon Composting project which aims at training in composting, offering a household compost to residents who have the space to install it and the continued support of the Lisbon City Council for residents who express an interest in reducing your household waste producing fertilizer that could be used in the most diverse contexts, just have to enroll in this project.

The pilot phase of this initiative involved the implementation of community composers in four parishes: Ajuda, Areeiro, Campolide and Olivais. In 2017, more than 600 tons of common waste were collected daily, 40% of this waste was biodegradable, sent for incineration. Household composting avoids the disposal of valuable waste incineration. This initiative aims to reverse this process at its source, providing citizens with a simple way to recycle their household waste, thus ensuring economic and environmental benefits.

How to make compost?
It's simple, just put the leftovers from the preparation of meals, specifically fruits and vegetables, covering them with small branches, herbs and leaves and let nature act.

DOOR – 2 – DOOR COLLECTION

The proposal of the Door-2-Door initiative involved the distribution of exclusive boxes for organic waste to 6,700 households and 150 companies. This waste is now directly collected by a service provided by the Lisbon City Council, dedicated specifically for this purpose.

URBAN ART PLASTIC REUSE

Because waste does not necessarily have to be unpleasant to the eye, this initiative is based on organizing, communicating and activating an exhibition of new artists whose raw material – like Bordalo II – is plastic waste, with a strong component of environmental awareness and ocean protection.
